Wilder wins Twitter vote to be Joshua´s next opponent

Deontay Wilder against Anthony Joshua is the fight fans want to see in April 2019, according to a poll posted on Twitter by the unified heavyweight champion.

Joshua battled back from an early setback to beat Alexander Povetkin at Wembley on Saturday, the WBA, IBF and WBO strap holder stopping his opponent in the seventh round.

Povetkin had bloodied Joshua's nose in round one, but when the Briton sensed an opening he took it with devastating effect, securing a 22nd victory and 21st by knockout.

Attention immediately turned to Joshua's next opponent with the victorious 28-year-old stating his desire to fight Wilder after the pair failed to agree a September meeting.

However, Joshua opted to put the decision in the hands of the fans, saying: "The sport is about what the fans want.

"Let's ask the question. There's no mandatory challengers. We're gonna put a poll out on Twitter because anyone is welcome."
Wilder, Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte were the options fans could choose from, with the American coming out on top with 53 per cent of the 487,511 votes.

Fury – who will meet Wilder in December – polled 42 per cent, while Whyte claimed just five per cent.
